REAL training for operator staff

Lived Experience – Sometimes I just turn around and go home

REAL training (Respect, Empathise, Ask, Listen) is Department for Transport’s free, ready-made and easy to use, package of training content – videos, training slides and comprehensive guidance for trainers – designed to help make travel inclusive and accessible for everyone using all modes of public transport.

The engaging materials have been designed to help training managers (or people responsible for putting together training agendas) deliver training to a variety of staff (for example, drivers/captains, customer services, and operational staff) within each transport mode: bus and coach, taxi, rail, aviation and maritime.

REAL was produced by the Department for Transport in partnership with transport sector professionals, disability organisations (including Scope, Alzheimer’s Society and Disability Rights UK) and disabled people to improve the sector’s confidence and skills in delivering inclusive journeys for disabled passengers.
